The full answers are posted below Pedster will be featured in the next DJ Mag too Thanks to Pioneer, KAM, American DJ and Pacemaker ---------------- Words from DJ Pedster. ----------------- Ever since I was a kid, I always remembered hearing music, you know, Boney M and the like (yes, Im that old!), my parents loved music so I guess thats how people pick up the rhythm to dance. You could say music is my inspiration of becoming a DJ as well as other things. Being disabled isnt all lost, some people with disabilities just crawl up in their own world, but many manage to overcome many obstacles to do what they dream to do. The latter is the same with me in many respects, as life is too short. At first, I was kind of hesitant about getting involved with the DJ community because my physical difficulties, however, one day, by mistake, I came across this PC program called Virtual DJ. At first it was mind-boggling, but the more I practised, the better I became, as my Youtube videos show people As I said, my inspiration to DJ was music, I love music. Chart music, Garage music, Drum & Bass music, and House music. The thought of mixing two songs together gives you a buzz, especially when you know your audience are enjoying it too. I have been a DJ since July of 06. Im still learning new things every day, its a fact of life with everything. As I have a physical disability, my DJ technique is different to the rest - instead of decks, I use my PC. I have Cerebral Palsy, which, as other things, has burdened me full use of my hands. Instead of decks, I use my beloved PC with a program called Virtual DJ - which has all the same things as the decks and a mixer. Great eh! As my hands have limited dexterity, I use my nose to type sixty percent of the time. So, I use my nose to control the program's controls. I find it quicker - not a lot of people NOSE that! Now I DJ from my bedroom broadcasting to the world via the internet. I have started up a radio station called Live4Vibez.com with a fellow Youtuber, John Beck aka A1PartyDJs from Australia. I started it up because I was getting turned down from many other stations I applied to. So, my philosophy is to beat them at their own game, and currently its going well. All our DJs are from all over the world, broadcasting from home, hence our slogan (Where DJs play from home). Im very proud of it and what Ive achieved so far, it is well organised and managed, I like to do things properly otherwise things fail quickly. As I tell many people theres not a right or a wrong way to deejay, it is all down to the individual, if we all DJd the same way, it would be boring! Most people say PC and CDJ mixing is crap and cheating, I disagree, as being a DJ isnt just being able to beat-match, it is more than that, a good DJ plays tunes that fit well together for their audience, depending on the occasion of course. If there wasnt for PC DJing, I wouldnt be able to be a DJ! Each individual is entitled to their opinions of course, which, if you see my comments on my Youtube videos receive, youll see the mixed views. Saying all that, I would love to be able to use decks, cdjs and mixers. Currently, Im looking for people & manufacturers to maybe work with me to design a custom mixer for people with disabilities. People contact me to ask if I would be interested in helping them with college projects, for example, electriktricks, he is doing a project for university about MIDI controllers designed especially for disabled people. Naturally I was interested to assist. He bought up some interesting questions, like: How would you think clubs would react to DJ's with impairments?. Not being a mobile DJ myself, Im unable to answer that, but maybe someone who are mobile deejays could. It would be interesting to know! A lot of other Youtubers have contacted me who have various disabilities, saying that they wouldnt be able to do what Im doing, maybe due to the difficulties. I am wanting to change all that, to provide some support for these people to achieve their goals! Maybe offer them help and advice, even tutorials on the virtual/PC side of deejaying. Although I dont claim to know everything like most people it would be a very interesting project to take on. So watch this space!
